People's Climate March, September 2014

Introduction. On Sunday, September 21, 2014, New York City will host the largest and most diverse climate-related demonstration in history. The People's Climate March is timed to coincide with a gathering of world leaders for the United Nations Climate Summit 2014. The Summit is intended to “galvanize and catalyze global climate action." Simultaneous events are planned in dozens of countries around the world.

The following letter was distributed to [   ] on December [  ], 2014, in response to the failure of grand juries in the month of December 2014 to indict the police involved in the homicides of unarmed African American men in Ferguson, Missouri, and in New York City. Leonard Peltier Letter Requesting His Release from Prison

Background

At New York Yearly Meeting Fall Sessions 2014, Witness Coordinating Committee brought to the body a request that the Yearly Meeting write to President Obama asking him to arrange the release from prison of Lakota activist Leonard Peltier "in accordance with the plan drawn up by the National Congress of American Indians. Peltier is believed by some human rights activists to have been wrongly convicted of killing FBI agents. The gathered body of the Yearly Meeting approved sending the letter whose text appears below.
