Letter to Rep. Barbara Leefrom Old Chatham Friends MeetingOld Chatham Monthly MeetingPowell House Quaker Conference and Retreat Center 524 Pitt Hall Road, Old Chatham, NY 12136 October 15, 2001 Representative Barbara Lee
Dear Barbara Lee: Old Chatham Monthly Meeting (Quakers) wishes to express our deep appreciation for your vote against granting wider war powers to the President. As members of the Religious Society of Friends, we seek nonviolent solutions to all conflicts and repudiate war under any circumstance. We were dismayed that there was only one such vote in Congress and awed that you had the courage to cast it. We commend you for staying on the path you think is right, despite enormous pressure from all sides. We hope and pray that others in Congress will come forward to urge restraint and encourage diplomacy over war in finding solutions to terrorism around the world. Peace, Elisabeth Grace, Clerk |
