Worship and Action for Peace LetterJuly 8, 2005Waiting Together Dear New York Yearly Meeting Friends Our resource and strength is in attention to God. In shared worship we rest in God. We invite you to consider making a special effort to join other Friends* as we absorb the news of disaster in London and uphold British Friends, all folk in the United Kingdom shaken by sudden disaster, and our suffering world. We wait in holy expectancy. We may wait long, we may be sustained in ongoing actions for peace, or we may be surprised by new inspiration. Attention to God is the ground of our capacity to reach out in care and concern. Let us worship together in these troubled times. Peaceable greetings, Linda Chidsey and Vicki Cooley for the Worship and Action for Peace Working Group?" * You can find nearby meetings at www.quakerfinder.org.
Linda Chidsey sent the following message Britain Yearly Meeting: Dear Friends, Please know that Friends in New York Yearly Meeting are holding you in our hearts and prayers this day. We send deep condolences for the profound suffering and losses you experienced this morning in the London transit bombings, and pray that in the days and weeks ahead you will draw strength and consolation from the One in whom we live and breathe and have our being. It was nearly four years ago that the hearts of Friends in NYYM were broken open to the reality and depth of suffering that accompanies events like this morning's bombings. We reach out to you now in care and concern, praying that all will be well and that each of us will be strengthened in our resolve to do our part in helping usher in the peaceable kingdom. In the fellowship of peace, Linda B. Chidsey Clerk, New York Yearly Meeting
