SEEKING A BETTER WAY

WE, YOUR NEIGHBORS, ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE CHALLENGES OUR NATION FACES. As Americans, we all have the right and the duty to engage in public dialog to ensure we act responsibly. We are gravely concerned that our government''s recent actions have been dangerously misdirected.

OUR CONCERNS INCLUDE

  • aggressive military approaches to conflict around the world
  • re-labeling many groups engaged in long-standing conflicts as "terrorist"
  • increased willingness to consider using nuclear weapons
  • uncontrolled military spending at the expense of vital domestic programs
  • decreased respect for civil liberties
  • rejection of international laws and treaties

This approach is already creating greater conflict and instability. As we work toward true security, we need to deal with root causes of the violence. Economic and energy policies which enrich leaders of oil-supplying nations, while leaving their people entrapped in poverty and futility, are a recipe for ongoing deadly conflict. We must find better ways to create a more secure world for ourselves and future generations. The world cannot be freed from terrorism and weapons of mass destruction through unilateral U. S. military action and war.

LET US RESOLVE

  • to build international justice systems to pursue and prosecute terrorists
  • to investigate the economic and social conditions that fuel terrorism
  • to support treaties that lessen tensions, limiting our own weapons of mass destruction as we call upon others to do the same
  • to ban the sale and transfer of weapons to zones of conflict
  • to reduce our dependence on oil through conservation and sustainable energy technologies
  • to promote real dialogue both abroad and at home

Please join us in the search for a better way.
