Nurture Coordinating Committee

The Nurture Section of New York Yearly Meeting

The Nurture Section of New York Yearly Meeting is

  • the coordinating body for committees that are concerned with the spiritual health and leadership development of younger Friends,
  • the link from NYYM and three Quaker bodies that serve Friends nationally and worldwide,
  • and serves as the communication link between NYYM and two institutions under the care of NYYM: Oakwood Friends School (Poughkeepsie, NY)  and Powell House (Old Chatham, NY).

Nurture Coordinating Committee

The Nurture Coordinating Committee (NCC) meets four times a year: at NYYM Spring, Summer and Fall Sessions, and during Coordinating Weekend at the end of January. NCC appoints a representative to NYYM Sessions Committee and to the Meetings for Discernment Steering Committee. Six at-large members may serve for two staggered three year terms. Each of the committees listed above appoints a representative to serve on NCC as well.

Epistle Committee

During Summer Sessions, the Epistle Committee drafts a letter from NYYM to Friends throughout the world to let them know about our concerns, challenges and milestones on our spiritual journey. The Epistle Committee also receives epistles from other yearly meetings, and may read some of these during NYYM business sessions.
